Mizuno Contender Pristine / Mole / Sunburn

The Mizuno Contender S revives a performance driven silhouette originally introduced in 1995. Designed with input from Mizuno’s founder Rhiachi Mizuno, the original model focused on lightweight stability and cushioning for entry level runners. Today, the Contender S transitions that technical foundation into a refined unisex sportstyle release.

The upper construction follows the original blueprint, combining mesh with suede reinforcements for durability and comfort. In the AW23 evolution, the Contender S introduces a renewed material mix, blending suede and synthetic suede over a clean white base with contrasted colour eyelets. The alternating layers of matte mesh and suede preserve the 90s aesthetic while maintaining a balanced, contemporary appearance.

Underfoot cushioning is delivered through a single density compression moulded EVA midsole. This construction provides consistent impact absorption suited for everyday wear on urban surfaces. In the heel, Mizuno Transpower technology is integrated as a responsive foam insert, engineered to enhance shock absorption and improve rearfoot cushioning.

The outsole is built from a one piece solid rubber compound, offering durability and stable ground contact. Forefoot flex grooves are incorporated to support a smoother heel to toe transition, reflecting the running heritage of the original design.

With a 12.5 mm stack height, the Contender S maintains a stable, grounded ride. The total weight of 640 grams gives the shoe a structured feel while remaining suitable for daily rotation. Classified for street use, it carries forward its performance origins into a modern lifestyle setting.
